My Zenith Zodiac
received its airworthiness certificate on February 22, 2005
after 7 years of on-again / off-again building.
First flight was on April 10th, 2005 and the
aircraft handled beautifully.
Control feel is solid and responsive and the plane’s a
hoot to fly. I’ve
been very pleased with the smooth running Jabiru 3300 engine.
Performance has met the published numbers of 1000 fpm climb rate
at gross weight and a max cruise speed of 140 mph.
When asked to describe the overall flying experience,
I’d have to say it reminds me of driving a convertible
sports car on steroids!
This has been the fulfillment of a life long dream.
I’ve wanted to build a plane ever since, as a child, I
ran across an obscure newspaper clipping describing a homebuilt
P-51 mustang. Heartfelt
thanks to my wife Denise for her patient support.
We tore more than a few sets of clothes trying to squeeze
by “that darn airplane project” in the garage!
Finally a special thanks to Chris Heintz for designing
such a well behaved airplane that average folks can build and
fly. |

many other good ones among the hundreds I have studied. Lots and
lots of information is presented with some lovely graphics. The
literature alone is impressive, but the volume of information will
