HOW FAR IS IT?

Measure the direct distance between two points anywhere around the world.

This service (courtesy of Bali Online) uses data from the US Census and a supplementary list of cities around the world to find the latitude and longitude of two places, and then calculates the true distance (statute miles, nautical miles and kilometers) and heading between them (as the plane flies), and provides details on the two locations, including elevation. It also links to a map showing the two locations using the Xerox PARC Map Server, and links to driving directions using MapQuest.

Various query formats are allowed. For example:

• Oshkosh, WI (any city and state within US)
• Paris, France (major world city and/or country)
• 39:09:59N 91:52:14W (longitude and latitude)
